Description from the seller
This extraordinary figural centerpiece bowl was made around 1910 by the renowned porcelain manufactory Schierholz Plaue in Thuringia.
The artfully designed piece combines the manufactory's characteristic features: finely modeled figures, rich Rocaille decoration, openwork forms, elaborately worked rose appliqué, and elegant gilded accents.
At the center is an openwork bowl held by a gallant couple in historical dress. The scene takes up the popular Rococo motif for which Schierholz became internationally known.
Notably, the three-dimensional rose festoons that encircle the bowl are meticulously hand-sculpted and painted.
The base is further adorned with musical instruments, a music book, and other decorative elements, creating a romantic, festive scene.
Inside the bowl is a finely executed bouquet of flowers in polychrome painting. The combination of delicate openwork, sculpted blossoms, and figural design makes this piece an impressive example of German porcelain art from the early 20th century.
The Schierholz Plaue porcelain manufactory was among the leading producers of decorative luxury porcelain of its time and exported its wares worldwide. Comparable figural bowls with rose appliqués today count among the sought-after collectibles of the manufactory.
The vase shows age-related gilding wear. The flowers and leaves are in very good condition. 2 minimal chips on the leaves.
