Description from the seller
An exquisitely crafted wall crucifix combining traditional Central European woodcarving artistry with a detailed metal figure of Jesus Christ.
The Cross (Base): Made from a lightweight solid wood, stained in a deep, rich dark tone. The cross features intricate and precise geometric hand-carving throughout its surface. In the center, behind the figure of Christ, is a beautifully carved multi-pointed starburst/sunburst aura. The four ends of the cross terminate in detailed, circular carved rosettes. The style of the carving is highly characteristic of the folk-art and artisan traditions of Central Europe (such as the Alpine region, Germany, Austria, or Bohemia).
The Corpus (Figure): Cast from patinated metal with exceptional attention to anatomical detail, the folds of the perizonium (cloth), and the fine facial expression complete with the crown of thorns. Mounted above Christ's head is a curved metal scroll bearing the INRI inscription.
The Back: The reverse side features an original, sturdy metal hanging loop secured tightly with two rivets, highlighting the authentic and traditional method of vintage assembly.
