Byzantine icon of Saint George with the dragon – image on canvas attached to a wooden panel with a gold-colored background and certificate.

Beautifully executed Byzantine icon depicting Saint George on horseback, shown as a dragon-slayer. The saint is depicted in military attire, seated on a white horse, while he defeats the dragon with his spear. On the right in the background is the princess/figure by the tower, as is customary within the traditional iconography of Saint George.

The icon is executed in the style of Greek/Byzantine icons, with a rich gold ground, red outer edge, and a decoratively recessed pictorial surface. Above the depiction is the Greek designation of the saint: Ὁ Ἅγιος Γεώργιος — Saint George.

On the reverse side there is a multilingual certificate indicating that this is a copy of a Byzantine icon, made on canvas, in the colors of hagiography, with a gold-colored background. There is also a stamp from a gallery/workshop, Greek/Byzantine oriented.

The icon has an aged appearance with craquelé, dark patina, wear marks and signs of use, especially in the gold ground and along the edges. This gives the object a characterful, antique look.
