Description from the seller

Magnificent ancient hand-painted Orthodox icon on a single-board wooden panel, depicting Saint John the Baptist (sometimes called Saint John the Forerunner).
The saint is depicted according to the strict codes of Eastern iconography, bearing ascetic features, a gaze of great spiritual depth, long hair and a finely drawn forked beard. One can glimpse beneath the patina his traditional tunic in camel hair. At the bottom of the panel, traces of traditional motifs (possibly evoking the chalice of martyrdom or the axe at the foot of the tree) remain visible despite the passage of time.
Characteristics and condition:
Era: 20th century
Support: Raw wooden panel of origin presenting a central knot on the reverse. The wood is naturally darkened by the years and the fumes of devotion.
Attachment: Original wrought-iron staple, firmly anchored on the upper edge.
Condition: An authentic piece "as is", never restored. The pictorial layer (on a gesso/levkas-type ground) shows a magnificent network of natural age craquelure. Some losses of the ground are visible, mainly on the outer borders and the upper corners. The old protective varnish (olifa) has darkened over time, which gives the piece a dark, mystical patina and undeniable authenticity. A few traces of original inscriptions (in Cyrillic or Greek characters) remain in the upper corners.
A perfect collectible for lovers of sacred art, religious antiquities, or authentic objects of popular devotion."}`}``}`}# Answer with only the json object. Ensure valid JSON.
