Satsuma - Lidded vase - Ceramic - Polychrome enamels and gold

Splendid ceramic decorated in the traditional Satsuma style (originating from Japan) and crafted by hand around the middle of the last century (20th century). This genre is recognizable by the characteristic ivory-colored glaze with dense surface cracks (craquelé), enriched by polychrome enamels and abundant raised gold finishes (Moriage technique).

The vase has a bulbous body structure with a lid topped by a knop and is called a potiche (or temple vase); the object features elaborate decorative panels with floral and geometric motifs, framed by dark cobalt blue fields and gilded details, and scenes of life, height-wise.
