Description from the seller

Gustav Klimt: "Hope I, 1903".

Offset lithograph on smooth paper (ca. 170 g/m2).
Published in 1990 by Taschen.

Condition: the work is in very good condition.

Klimt ventured in 1903 into a painting of a naked pregnant woman. It was completely clear to him that it would be taboo to display this painting publicly, but such considerations did not play a role for his work.

However, one cannot say that Klimt intentionally wanted to provoke his audience.
Klimt reduced the scandalous potential of his painting by emphasizing the decorative elements and the enigmatic allegory.
The heads at the top of the painting indicate that the future life – the result of lust – is overshadowed by suffering and death.

Never framed and kept in a dark archival storage between protective acid-free paper.
The displayed photos are part of the description.
