David Hockney (1937-2026) - Artcurial Paris – 1979

This extraordinary original exhibition edition by David Hockney was published in 1979 to accompany his exhibition at Artcurial – Centre d'Art Plastique Contemporain in Paris.

The work is hand-signed in pencil by David Hockney in the bottom right.

This edition belongs to a limited run of only 100 hand-signed copies. As is typical with these exclusive presentation copies, it is unnumbered.

The high-quality print was produced by Mourlot Paris on fine Creysse paper.

The depiction shows an early portrait of Gregory Evans, Hockney’s longtime friend, former partner, manager, and one of the principal models of his artistic work. For more than four decades, Evans has been a constant source of inspiration for the artist. As in many of Hockney’s portraits, the sitter is portrayed in a relaxed pose, with the focus entirely on personality, expression, and psychological presence. The fine line work and the balanced composition underscore Hockney’s extraordinary mastery as a portraitist.

The work is professionally framed, mounted on a linen background with a floating effect, and presented in a wide, handmade wooden frame with Plexiglas Optical HC. This high-quality framing provides optimal UV protection, high scratch resistance, and minimal reflections.

David Hockney (1937–2026) is regarded as one of the most significant and influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. With his iconic swimming pool paintings, intimate portraits, landscapes, and his groundbreaking experiments with photography and digital media, he inspired generations of artists and collectors.

Hockney died on June 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Thus ended an extraordinary artistic career spanning more than six decades. With his death, a new chapter begins on the international art market. It is expected that demand for authentic and hand-signed works by David Hockney will continue to rise in the coming years.
