Statue, Maria met Kind - 40 cm - Biscuit porcelain

Offered is this atmospheric and richly decorated porcelain statue of the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms. With an impressive height of 40 cm, this is a very prominent and decorative piece.

The statue is executed in a recognizable, high-quality style that strongly recalls the finer French Vieux Paris or German porcelain from the fin de siècle. The whole is beautifully hand-painted in soft pastel colors (light blue, pale yellow and pink) and richly accented with gold leaf. Particularly striking are the raised white dots (relief) on the clothing, which give the statue extra texture and depth.

On top of Mary’s head sits an open-work, gold-colored crown that is hollow on top. This type was often used at the time to place a small oil lamp, candle, or (dry) flower inside.

Condition:
The statue is in a beautiful, authentic antique state. As is customary with porcelain of this age, the gilding here and there is somewhat worn from polishing over the years, which adds to the antique character. There are some minimal signs of aging/ cracking from firing. On the fingers of the Child and at Mary’s thumb there are a few extremely minor, minimal irregularities/old traces visible (see detail photos), but the statue is absolutely free of major cracks or large restorations.
