Ancient Greek silver drachm of Philip III, Alexander III type, dating to circa 323–317 BC, 1.6 cm in diameter and 4.20 g in weight, with Herakles’ head on the obverse and Zeus enthroned with eagle and sceptre on the reverse, and the vertical inscription ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ meaning “of Philip.”

A fine ancient Greek silver drachm struck in the name of Philip III in the Alexander III The Great type. The obverse displays the profiled head of Herakles wearing the skin of the Nemean lion, facing right. The reverse displays the god, Zeus, enthroned on the left, holding an eagle in his right hand and a sceptre in his left. The Greek inscription ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ is written vertically to the right of the figure of Zeus. The legend, written in the genitive case, translates as, FILIPPOU, meaning [the coinage] ‘of Philip’.
