About Quinta do Pôpa
Located in Adorigo, Tabuaço, in the heart of the Douro Superior ( Alto Douro Vinhateiro ), a UNESCO World Heritage site, Quinta do Pôpa was born from the realization of Francisco "Pôpa" Ferreira’s dream, carried out by his son Zeca do Pôpa.
Currently run by the Ferreira siblings, Stéphane Ferreira and Vanessa Ferreira, the estate blends family tradition with innovation, cultivating about 14 hectares of vineyard on high-quality Douro slopes.
The estate works with emblematic regional grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, and Sousão, while preserving old vines over 80 years old, a viticultural heritage of enormous value.
Since 2020, all production is Vegan Friendly certified, reflecting the estate’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and responsible viticulture.
The winemaking philosophy combines traditional methods, such as foot-trodden grapes in granite lagares, with modern technology and a high-precision enology approach, producing elegant, balanced wines deeply linked to the Douro terroir.
The wine
Pôpa Bastardo 2024 pays homage to one of the oldest grape varieties in the Douro. Despite the unusual name, Bastardo is recognized for its capacity to produce wines of great aromatic elegance, delicate color, and excellent freshness.
This wine presents a distinct profile, marked by fresh red fruit, floral and spiced notes, fine tannins, and balanced acidity, reflecting the variety’s personality and Quinta do Pôpa’s winemaking style.
Its authenticity and limited expression in Portuguese viticulture make it particularly interesting for connoisseurs of rare varieties and identity-driven wines.
