Magnificent line drawing by Eugène Eechaut dated 1979. This kneeling female nude is executed with remarkable economy of means and great sensuality. The body, slightly turned, is rendered with a fluid, precise, and living line that emphasizes the curve of the hips, the roundness of the breasts, and the delicacy of the extremities.
The work oscillates between classicism and modernity: the pure, almost calligraphic line evokes the tradition of the great masters of the nude while asserting a contemporary freedom and a discreet yet powerful sensuality. Eugène Eechaut (1928-2019) is a Belgian artist of French origin, a painter, draftsman, and watercolorist known for a sensitive and poetic universe located at the crossroads of free figuration, abstraction, and drawing of great delicacy. He settled in Belgium where he attended evening classes at the Saint-Gilles Academy (Brussels) while largely improving his skills as a self-t taught artist.
From 1958, he received his first distinctions at the European Centre of Art and Aesthetics. A member of the Jecta Group since 1968, he developed a personal style marked by the influence of Gromaire and La Fresnaye, while affirming a singular voice. His work explores landscapes, abstract compositions, nudes, floral still lifes, as well as more fantastical themes or inspired by the insect world. He produced countless graphic, industrial, or animal drawings, using with virtuosity the dilutions of Chinese ink and textural effects.
The Tamara Pfeiffer Gallery (Galerie Pfeiffer) in Brussels played a decisive role in his career between the 1960s and 1980s. It regularly exhibited him alongside great 20th-century masters such as René Magritte (with whom he had a deep friendship), Jean Cocteau, Ambrogiani, Bricault, Félicien Rops, and many others. This international visibility contributed to his recognition among collectors.
