Elegant molded and pressed crystal vase, model “Médicis,” produced by the Val Saint Lambert crystal works during the second half of the 20th century, presumably between the 1950s and 1970s. Inspired by ancient grand vases, this emblematic form testifies to the factory’s desire to revisit classical models in a decorative language suited to post-war productions. This example bears no engraved signature, a common characteristic on molded crystal pieces of that era, whose identification often relied on a paper label now disappeared.

The vase features a wide flared rim resting on an elegant baluster stem, itself set on a tiered hexagonal terrace. Its decoration, achieved by molding, reproduces with finesse the effect of traditional carving: a dense network of diamond tips animates the rim, underscored by a frieze of vertical facets. The lower swelling and the base are enriched with lozenge-shaped facets that harmonize with the inclined planes of the terrace, offering a remarkable play of light and highlighting the crystal’s purity.

The condition is remarkable, near mint. The crystal retains all of its transparency and original brilliance, with no veil or notable scratch. Only a tiny chip of a few millimeters is to be noted under the terrace, at the base level. Completely discreet in presentation, it does not affect the aesthetics, the stability, or the decorative qualities of the piece.

In the aftermath of World War II, Val Saint Lambert adapted its production to new market expectations by developing, alongside its prestigious cut crystal, a significant range of molded and pressed crystal pieces. This period is distinguished by a controlled reinterpretation of classical shapes, such as the “Médicis” model, combining timeless elegance, quality of execution, and glassmaking know-how. This vase fully fits into this phase of renewal that marks the history of the Belgian manufacture in the mid-20th century.
