A famous etching created by Marc Chagall between 1923 and 1927, part of his vast series of illustrations for the novel Dead Souls, by N. Gogol. It is part of the 107 engravings originally commissioned by art dealer Ambroise Vollard, later published by Tériade in 1948.

Condition: excellent. Also visible is a light indentation on the paper at the perimeter (plate impression).

Sold with a frame in good condition; only minimal signs of wear on the wood at three points.
