Offered is a particularly beautiful and complete set of nine hand-painted polychrome wall tiles, produced in the traditional Dutch tile-making craft and executed in the beloved Makkum style. The tiles are hand-painted on a white tin glaze ground and together form a decorative whole with a rich historical appearance.

Each tile depicts a separate soldier from the Dutch Golden Age, including musketeers, pikemen, drummers and combatants with various weapons. The scenes are based on the famous military studies of Jacob de Gheyn II (1565-1629), whose engravings served as inspiration for many Dutch tile workshops.

The figures are rendered in a vivid color palette of green, yellow, manganese brown and cobalt blue. The characteristic French fleur-de-lis corner motifs give each tile a classical finish and enhance the authentic character of the set.

Thanks to the uniform style, the beautiful colors and the careful workmanship, this complete set forms a particularly decorative wall panel that fits well in both a classical, country and historical interior.
