Rare Art Nouveau Desk – École de Nancy – attributed to Louis Majorelle – France circa 1890 – Solid Walnut
Exceptional and rare Art Nouveau writing desk dating from around 1890, originating from the famous École de Nancy in France and, according to the accompanying expert appraisal, attributed to Louis Majorelle (1859–1926).
The desk is crafted from solid walnut wood and displays the elegant organic forms, flowing lines and floral relief carvings characteristic of the French Art Nouveau movement.
The piece features a beautifully designed raised structure, original fittings and locks, with practical storage compartments. The left side contains a cabinet section, while the right side features three stacked drawers. Additional drawers are located behind the door.
Its asymmetrical design, sculptural curves and natural inspiration are typical characteristics associated with the École de Nancy movement. Despite its substantial size, the desk has a refined and elegant appearance and can be placed freely within a room.
A written expert appraisal by an art historian is included. The stated replacement value in the 2020 appraisal is €4,950 – €5,500.
