These few pieces from the Hermès museum bear witness to the art of lantern makers, who doubled and often enhanced that of the coaches once one claimed to drive in the dark. King of the Belgians, Khedive of Egypt, seductive adventurer, Napoleon’s emissary, everything moved in the closed night thanks to these lanterns whose flame in full gallop spread in the darkness as much a passion for movement as the sacred artisanal fire.
