Description from the seller

The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot is in a very notable state of conservation, with an overall elegant and well-preserved appearance, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.

The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical brushed finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface largely keeps its original lustre, showing only light micro-scratches from normal use on a vintage piece, with no visible loss of plating or noticeable dents. The clip is straight, firm, and properly aligned, maintaining its original tension.

The black resin body presents an equally clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro-scratches from use can be seen, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damages. The model engravings “642” and the brand “M” on the rear of the body remain crisp and perfectly legible.

The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material loss.

The 14C solid gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585,” remains visually in good condition, though the two-tone finish has worn. The hawks (gulls) are properly aligned and the iridium tip shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.

The pen has been inspected and tested, ensuring its proper functioning for writing.

Overall, this is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically attractive presence and signs of use that are discreet and consistent with its age.

Conservation Recommendations

To keep this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specifically for fountain pens, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if it is not used for a while, dry it thoroughly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.

It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
