Description from the seller
4/4 Violin to Joannes (Giovanni) Tononi Bologna
Beautiful 4/4 violin built to the model of Joannes (Giovanni) Tononi, one of the most respected violin makers of the Bolognese school from the late 17th and early 18th century. Giovanni Tononi (ca. 1640–1713) enjoyed an excellent reputation for his refined instruments, inspired by the famous Amati tradition and known for their elegant shaping, carefully finished f-holes, and warm, powerful sound.
The violin bears a label to Joannes Tononi of Bologna and reflects the characteristic style of the historic Italian violin-making school. Instruments based on Tononi models are valued for their balanced tone, warm midrange, and clear projection, traits rooted in the classical Bolognese building tradition.
This violin has a fine appearance with a traditionalarched soundboard, elegant f-holes, and a warm amber-brown varnish that aligns with historic Italian examples. The instrument possesses a distinctive vintage look that appeals to both players and collectors.
Condition
The violin is in good vintage condition, suitable for the instrument’s age. The top plate displays two old hairline cracks that have been professionally repaired and stabilized in the past. These historical repairs are part of the instrument’s life story and not uncommon in older string instruments. The violin remains structurally stable and fully playable.
