A vintage silk furisode kimono from Japan, 166.5 cm by 134 cm, weight 1.2 kg, with a multicolour bokashi design featuring oshidori ducks and floral motifs, fully lined with wide sleeves and dating to 1900–2000 in good condition with light lining discoloration.
Description from the seller
Item Description
This is a vintage furisode, the formal long-sleeved silk kimono traditionally worn by unmarried women in Japan for special occasions such as coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, and other celebratory events.
The garment features a striking bokashi (graduated) dye ground shifting from vivid vermillion-red to soft grey, creating a dramatic backdrop for the design. The pattern depicts pairs of oshidori (mandarin ducks), long-associated in Japanese culture with marital happiness and fidelity, set among flowing water motifs, chrysanthemums, plum blossoms, and maple leaves. Fine gold detailing outlines the floral and wave elements throughout, adding depth and richness to the overall composition. Hanging chrysanthemum sprays cascade down the shoulders and sleeves, a classical motif frequently seen on formal furisode of this type.
The kimono is fully lined and finished with the wide, dramatic sleeves characteristic of furisode style, designed to be worn with an obi and full set of kimono accessories.
Size
Height: 166.5 cm
Width including sleeves: 134 cm
Weight
1200 g (1.2 kg)
Condition
The silk fabric and printed/dyed motifs remain vivid and well preserved overall. Close inspection of the inner lining area reveals some light discoloration marks, visible as pale spotting on the white/pink under-layer (see detail photo); this appears consistent with age and storage rather than active staining. No tears, moth damage, or major structural issues were observed during visual inspection; no functional testing applies as this is a textile garment. Buyers are encouraged to review all photos closely, as this listing is based on visual inspection only.
