Upon returning to the Basque Country, he settled in Hernani where he created his first iron work, "Ilarik" (1951), the material with which he would work for ten years. Around 1960 he returned to large granite sculptures. His first exhibition was presented in Madrid, in 1954; quickly more works and successes followed.
