Description from the seller
Grande caraffa/scultura in vetro artistico con base in metallo placcato argento – Italia, anni ’60–’70
Elegant and substantial decorative carafe in authentic artistic glass, made in Italy in the 1960s–1970s by a master glassmaker of great experience, expression of the best Murano tradition of the period.
The work stands out for the exceptional quality of the workmanship. The body, hand-blown in crystal-clear glass of extraordinary lightness, features a refined twisted optical treatment (Optic Twist), obtained by twisting the glass while still hot, a technique requiring remarkable precision and high artisanal skill.
The sinuous handle applied in cobalt blue glass, perfectly integrated into the structure, the elongated neck and the elegantly shaped spout give the piece a strong sculptural presence and an elegance typical of the best Murano productions of the period.
A particularly valuable element is the original metal base with thick silver plating, finely worked and finished on the bottom with its original blue velvet lining—a detail reserved for high-quality productions and intended to protect the surfaces it rests on.
The object still bears the original label “Made in Murano – Italy” and that of the historic VIBEC jewelry and silversmiths in Milan, a prestigious retailer specialized in luxury items, a feature that testifies to distribution through a venue dedicated to objects of exceptional quality.
The condition is exceptional, practically as new. The glass is perfectly clear and brilliant, free of opacities, a factor that reasonably suggests the carafe has never been used and has been kept solely as a display piece. It shows no chips, cracks, restorations or other defects. The base with silver plating is also in excellent condition, with no missing parts, while the blue velvet bottom lining is perfectly preserved.
For craftsmanship quality, elegance of design, refinement of finishes, and the choice of materials, this example represents a prestigious testament to Murano glassmaking of the 1960s–1970s, intended for a high-end clientele.
