Diameter: 23 cm; height: 2 cm
Circular plate with a slightly wavy rim, in fine white glaze porcelain with a slightly ivory tint. The decoration, executed in enamels from the so-called famille rose palette and gilded, is organized around a central medallion framed by a rocaille polychrome cartouche housing a smoking tripod censer, accompanied by a Latin motto inscribed on a ribbon: "Dum peream placeam".
The basin and the rim are animated with ornamental reserves framed by gilded rocaille, alternating with bouquets of flowers, fruits and scrolling foliage. A peripheral frieze of gilded bamboo and scattered flowers punctuates the composition. The background presents a lightly raised molded decor (scrolls and floral motifs) visible under the glaze,typical of refined 18th-century export productions.
The quality of drawing, the finesse of the pink, green and blue enamels as well as the brush-applied gold highlights testify to careful workmanship intended for the European market, in the Rococo taste.
Condition:
Old rim chip restored, forming a crack. Light wear to the gilding and micro-scratches from use.
