Peterson’s System Standard 314 – Republic of Ireland – estate pipe

A classic and very neat Peterson’s System Standard 314, manufactured in the Republic of Ireland.

The 314 is one of Peterson’s distinctive compact System models, made as a sturdy bent briar with the well-known Peterson System and a nickel mount. The warm reddish-brown finish reveals an attractive and lively grain pattern.

The pipe has been carefully restored. The briar has been cleaned, restained, and subsequently polished and finished with carnauba wax. In doing so, an effort was made to preserve as much as possible the pipe’s original character and the visible grain pattern. The mouthpiece has been deoxidized, cleaned, and polished; the same goes for the nickel mount. Furthermore, the excess carbon buildup in the chamber has been removed and the smoking channels deeply cleaned.

The pipe is in a neat used vintage condition. Despite the restoration, a few small pits and normal age- and wear-related marks in the briar are visible. These have intentionally not been fully sanded away to avoid unnecessary material loss and are part of the patina that comes with its age.

At the end of the mouthpiece there are light signs of use. These have also been deliberately not aggressively sanded away to preserve the original shape of the mouthpiece. See the close-up photos for reference. The last photo is from before the restoration.

A lovely and highly recognizable Peterson System pipe that, thanks to the restoration, has regained a beautiful appearance without erasing all traces of its history.
