Table clock - Wood and brass - 1940-1950

Beautiful Anike Urgos mantel clock / buffet clock made of wood with a curved case and a round, gold dial. The so-called “hatter hat” form (tambour) was indeed manufactured from the 1930s, but the very gentle, shallow curvature combined with this light walnut veneer is absolutely characteristic of the Wirtschaftswunder era (approx. 1950–55).
Thus, this is an early post-war model in which Urgos visually adapted the case to the new, modern taste of the 1950s, while internally still housing the proven and robust pendulum mechanism of the pre-war period.

The clock features a glass bezel that can be opened to the side to expose the dial. The combination of the light (ivory-cream colored) dial ring and the pointed, minimalist gold hands only appeared around 1950 to distinguish itself from the dark, heavy pre-war designs. On the dial you can also see the logo in fine, modern script, exactly matching Urgos’ post-war branding.

The case is typically made of precious wood with visible grain, similar to mantel clocks from the 1950s.

Manufacturer: Urgos was a well-known German clockmaker from the Black Forest, known for mechanical movements.

Function: Mechanical movement that must be wound regularly

The numeral ring, the outer ring with the numerals, is made of brushed brass coated with a clear protective lacquer. This gives it a matte shine and prevents it from wearing as quickly. The inner part of the dial — the mirror — is not metal but shows the real and high-quality walnut veneer of the case. The dial was thus integrated directly into the case design. The numbers are applied and three-dimensional (applied figures). The protective glass is set in a brass ring. It can be easily opened and closed using the small handle and the two hinges.

The setting lever: The massive cast housing piece at the top left holds a lever that mechanically engages with the strike mechanism.
The strike lock:
- By flipping it onto the sound rods, it blocks the chimes at night. This allows the striking to be completely turned off, while the clock continues to run.

Condition of the pendulum: The round pendulum lens shows cracks in the material (lead or zinc die-cast). This is a typical sign of aging like material fatigue, but it does not affect function!
- the movement and the strike (gong) are wound with the corresponding key on the front of the clock movement.

It comes from an extensive collection of clocks that we are now gradually selling off. All clocks are cleaned and overhauled before sale, so they are ready for a new life.
The clocks are tested for several days; all of them work very well.
We are not clockmakers, but we know that all clocks require maintenance after some time.
We have cleaned the clock, removed dust, and overhauled it.
When we list a clock for sale, it has been running for weeks; beyond that, we know nothing and therefore cannot offer support with commissioning.
You simply need to unpack the clock, set it upright, and carefully hang the pendulum at the back of the movement. If desired, wind the clock and, if desired, the strike (gong) with the included key on the front of the dial.

For shipping, the pendulum is detached and securely packed.
