Santal dolls - Nepal (No reserve price)

The Santal people are an ethnic group in Bihar in northeast India. These dolls were formerly displayed on a diorama used by traveling storytellers to illustrate folk tales.

Many of these dolls were dispersed by traders in Kathmandu, in the mid- and late twentieth century, together with other tangible aspects of Santal culture, such as dodro banam (bowed musical instruments), flutes and palki panels (part of the wedding trousseau).

These storytelling dolls depict a row of dancing female ancestors.
