Description from the seller

In the photo series Mr. Knight’s World Band Receiver, Jasper de Beijer investigates how historical events change when they are shaped not by images, but by memory and imagination. The series is inspired by Christopher Knight, an American hermit who lived isolated for twenty-seven years in the forests of Maine and followed the outside world only through the radio.

For this series, De Beijer based himself on his own memories of news events, such as Chernobyl and Hurricane Katrina. As is often the case in his work, he first created scale models from drawn and cut materials, which he then photographed. In this way, images arise that seem recognizable, yet are simultaneously estranging and almost fairy-tale-like. His work shows how history, media, and personal imagination influence each other.

Jasper de Beijer has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. His work has been shown at the Dutch Photography Museum, the Tropenmuseum, Museum Het Domein, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. He has also been represented by renowned galleries in Amsterdam, New York, Düsseldorf, and Milan. His work is included in various public and private collections, including those of Bank of America and Rabobank. In 2021, Museum Rijswijk presented a retrospective exhibition of twenty years of artistry.
