Louis Vuitton backpack Montsouris GM in Monogram Canvas fabric with natural Vachetta leather trim. Made in France in March 1997 (Date Code visible on the buckle tongue: BA0937).
CONDITIONS
Monogram Canvas body and top flap fabric: the main body fabric and the top flap are in excellent condition, the LV pattern is vivid, free of cuts, tears, or cracks.
External Pocket (Canvas and Zipper): The Monogram canvas of the external pochette and the metal zipper work very well; the zip moves smoothly and the zipper pull has retained its shape.
Fabric Straps: The main brown fabric straps are secure, clean with minimal fraying.
Main Opening Edge: The upper edge surrounding the opening of the backpack retains a Vachetta leather trim with intact, well-secured stitching.
Overall Structure: The backpack is structurally solid and maintains its original shape well.
Lower Anchor Tabs of the Rings:
The two leather tabs at the base that anchor the metal rings of the straps are extremely dry, thinned, cracked, and visibly frayed at the edges (see photos). They require conditioning or possible repair.
Lower Surface: Exhibits a dark honey patina with moisture/water halos, superficial scratches, and scattered dark stains.
Base Corners: The leather along the piping around the base shows noticeable wear, roughness, and grooves from placing/abrasion (see photos).
External Pouch/Pocket (Sides and Edges):
Pouch sides: The leather on the lateral section and folded edge of the front pocket shows light scuffing and a darkened finish from age/dust (see photos).
Upper Handle Attachment and Attachment Ring (Handle/Detach Backpack):
The leather trim around the upper metal ring is very dry, partially cracked and eroded from weight and metal rubbing (see photos).
Closure and Drawstring:
Drawstring: The original Vachetta leather pull is missing and has been replaced with a brown fabric cord tied.
Front Leather Strap with Buckle: The leather strip shows creases, darkening, and light signs of drying at the buckle attachment points.
Hardware:
The brass rings and buckle show loss of original polish, with notable oxidation and dulling.
