Description from the seller
Important Space Age centerpiece in copper and turned metal – Italian design, 1970s
Exceptional Italian design centerpiece associated with the Space Age movement, produced in the early seventies, a period when design transformed everyday objects into genuine domestic sculptures.
The composition is built on perfect geometric balance: the wide bowl, visually suspended on an elegant conical foot, dialogues with a second opposing cone in mirror-polished copper. Between the two elements is inserted a refined green sphere that creates a strong color contrast, giving rhythm and lightness to the entire composition.
The piece recalls the most sophisticated design language of 1970s Italian design, where the purity of essential forms meets the quality of artisanal craftsmanship.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the object is its construction technique. When looking closely at the bowl, the characteristic concentric circles left by the turning on a sheet are clearly visible, a machining done on a lathe that required notable technical skill. These fine lines, legible against the light, are not a defect but testimony to the original craftsmanship, conferring uniqueness and authenticity to the piece.
The copper foot also features a splendid mirror finish that reflects light with elegance, while the refined green spherical element, with a glossy finish, further enhances the ensemble, creating a striking color balance.
The structure is fully disassemblable using a threaded stud, a typical construction solution of high-quality productions of the period.
Conditions are very good. The bowl shows some slight marks and small imperfections due to time and use, absolutely physiological for an object over fifty years old, which do not compromise the exceptional aesthetic impact or the overall harmony of the piece.
This is an extremely decorative object, capable of enhancing any contemporary, modernist, Mid-Century, or Space Age setting, perfect as a centerpiece or as an authentic sculpture for display.
