Koro (perfume burner) Japanese, manufactured during the late Meiji period or Taisho period (approximately between 1900 and 1925)

Tripod censer with lid (frequently designated in the Far East as Censer or Ding), made in bronze and with a strong influence of the traditional Chinese and Japanese decorative style (Meiji period). The piece is composed of symbolic and artistic elements very characteristic: Upper Handle: The perforated lid (to allow incense smoke to escape) is crowned by a bird-shaped handle (probably a phoenix or heron) perched on branches. Side Handles: The body of the censer features two imposing handles carved in the shape of mythological creatures, resembling Eastern dragons or Fo dogs (Qilin). Central Panels: The central domed section displays cartouches or relief panels with textured naturalistic motifs, depicting chrysanthemums and foliage. Tripod Structure and Base: The body sits on three organic legs that simulate roots or tree trunks, which in turn fit into a matching bronze circular base.
