VINTAGE PARKER 61 FIRST EDITION FOUNTAIN PEN (USA, CIRCA 1956):
We present at auction a fantastic piece of the history of writing: the mythical Parker 61. Launched in 1956 as the revolutionary successor to the Parker 51, this pen was advertised as "the writing instrument of the space age" thanks to its innovative capillary filling system, which allowed the pen to fill by simply inserting the teflon cylinder into the inkwell, without the need to operate levers or buttons.
This unit in particular is a coveted "First Edition". Its pedigree is certified by the rare embossed metal shield located on the lower front of its gold-filled laminated cap. The body is turned from Lucite resin in a dazzling Turquoise color (Vista Blue). It also retains the metal inlay in the shape of an arrow in the nib housing, a fundamental aesthetic detail of this model that frequently came loose and was lost over time on used units.
It sports a solid 14-karat gold tubular nib characteristic of the series, which provides an astonishingly smooth writing experience.
Condition (Technical Review)
Pen bidders are asked to carefully study the photographic gallery. The pen is approaching 70 years of age and shows excellent presence for a collector:
Body and Cap: The turquoise resin maintains a spectacular gloss, with no deep bite marks or cracks. The gold laminated cap is in good cosmetic condition, showing only the natural micro-wear from contact.
Key Details: The "First Edition" emblem is perfectly soldered, as is the detailed pen clip and the nib housing inlay.
Mechanism: (Important expert note: Parker 61s use a curled capillary cell to absorb ink. Since this is a vintage instrument, the internal cell typically contains fossilized ink residues from the era. To be used daily, it will require an intensive cleaning routine by soaking the system in water for days to dissolve residues and restore the original capillary action, a very common procedure for this model. It is delivered clean on the outside, as is, and without its original case).
Shipping
The item will be carefully protected and securely packaged, with insured shipping and an international tracking number.
A huge opportunity for Parker collectors to acquire one of the rare and historic First Editions of the 61 series in an incredibly striking color! Good luck to all bidders and have an excellent auction!"
