Description from the seller
Pair of 19th-Century Chestnut Urns with Lid in Empire Style
A distinctive and decorative pair of chestnut urns, executed in dark patinated metal and richly finished with brass-colored details. The stately shape, symmetric construction, and classical ornamentation give these objects a pronounced 19th-century appearance with clear Empire influences.
Both urns feature an elegant cup-shaped body on a profiled, round base. The removable, domed lids are crowned by a finely turned knob. Noteworthy are the openwork brass handles on either side, designed in an graceful and almost architectural line.
Such lidded urns were traditionally used for presenting and keeping roasted chestnuts warm. Today they form an impressive decorative ensemble, suitable for both a classical and an eclectic interior.
