Description from the seller

Large French crucifix from the second half of the 19th century, with an oak cross and Christ masterfully carved in pear wood.

The carving, of the highest artisanal quality, stands out for the extraordinary anatomical rendering and the refined expressiveness of the face, making it a work of distinction.

The execution quality becomes evident in the very fine anatomical details, with eyelashes, eyebrows, hair and beard rendered with almost miniature precision, rare in crucifixes of these dimensions.

Kept in good condition, it features a toe of the foot and some details of the crown of thorns plausibly reconstructed in wax, interventions not visible or perceptible except on close inspection. Recently treated with protective natural wax.

Monumental measurements of 70x40 cm, (Christ 30x30 cm) ideal for important sacral art collections.

Offered at auction with no reserve!

I guarantee proper packaging and fast shipping. Thank you.
