Scheurich - Vase - 420-37 - Ceramic - European line

Impressive ceramic vase or jug vase hails from the renowned German manufactory Scheurich Keramik and belongs to the coveted “europ linie” series from the 1960s to the 1970s. Model 420-37 is a noticeably rarer variant within this series and impresses especially with its exceptional size and presence.

With a height of about 37 cm, this vase ranks among Scheurich’s larger formats and clearly stands out from the more commonly offered standard sizes. The weight of around 2.3 kg also underscores the high-quality, solidly crafted ceramic and gives the piece a special value and stability.

Aesthetically, the vase captivates with its distinctive, vivid red glaze running in dynamic vertical bands over the dark, metallically glistening base. This typical Fat-Lava aesthetic makes every piece a unique original and epitomizes the expressive design language of West German studio ceramics from the Mid-Century era. The contrasting, dark-glazed rim and the boldly modeled handle add depth to the vase and give it an almost archaic, amphora-like appearance.

The base mark “W. Germany 420-37” clearly confirms the model and origin. Notably, the still-present original “Scheurich europ linie” sticker is worth highlighting as well, a detail becoming increasingly rare that further increases the collectible value.

The condition is very good, with only slight, age-appropriate signs of wear. The glaze shows a beautiful, authentic patina without significant damage.
