Description from the seller
19th-century brass spittoon with a classic trumpet shape
A characterful everyday object from the 19th century: this antique spittoon is made of brass and features an elegant, flaring upper section. The classic trumpet form combines functionality with a sober yet striking appearance.
Spittoons were frequently found in gentlemen’s rooms, cafés, stations, offices, and public places in the 19th century. Today, this specimen primarily serves as a particularly decorative object and a tangible reminder of vanished social customs.
The wide, funnel-shaped opening merges into a cylindrical midsection and a profiled, stable base. The rolled edges and subtle moldings give the piece a tidy finish. The warm brass surface has developed an authentic patina over the years.
