Antique Sacred Heart statue of Christ on a throne – Redemptor – polychrome religious statue – mid 19th century
A distinctive and characterful antique Sacred Heart statue of Christ, seated on a richly designed throne. Behind the head lies a cross-shaped aureole bearing the inscription “Redemptor,” Latin for Saviour. Christ wears a crown and shows the Sacred Heart with one hand, while the other hand is raised in a blessing gesture.
The statue is executed in polychromed plaster or composite and features warm earth tones, reddish-brown mantle areas, and finely modeled details. The throne is adorned with floral relief decorations and Christian cross motifs.
This devotional object dates, according to tradition, from the mid 19th century and has a powerful, authentic presence. An attractive collector’s item for lovers of religious art, Catholic devotional items, antique saints, ecclesiastical art, and Christian interior decoration.
Condition:
Good antique condition, with typical signs of age. Locally there is paint loss, small chips, superficial damages and wear, particularly on the crown, edges, pedestal and protruding parts.
