This item seems to be a cannon shell but it is a cartridge for the Coffman starter, using this an aircraft engine could be started without further tools. These cartridges play a prominent role in the film "The flight of the Phoenix", though the cartridge on offer here is a few sizes larger.  Made of brass, some inside parts are steel. The curved edge at the top is original and prevent the inner parts falling out of the cartridge. The diameter of bottom edge is 83 mm, and at the top it is 72 mm, height is 18 cm. Marked on the bottom: CART ELEC ENG START K66. Of course it is empty, no ammunition and free to collect.
