A vintage folding measuring stick (toise hippométrique) from the 1930s–1940s, with a bamboo main rod, metal fittings, a black synthetic curved handle, and a retractable metal ruler marked TOISE, retracted height 93 cm and extended up to about 280 cm, overall in good condition with age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Folding cane-type rod for measuring, in bamboo with a curved black handle and a retractable metal ruler marked “TOISE,” designed for measurement and interesting in a collection of equestrian or saddlery objects.
The main stem is blond bamboo, with metal ferrules/end caps, and a sliding graduated rule that unfolds from the handle. At the end of the rule there is a small perpendicular crosspiece serving as a measurement stop. The black, glossy handle is made of synthetic material (bakelite/plastic type).
Collapsed height: 93 cm. Extended height: approx. 280 cm.
Good overall used condition: marks and stains on the bamboo, dulling/light oxidation and small scratches on the metal parts, micro-scratches on the handle. The mechanism deployment is described as functional. No maker’s mark has been detected on the visible elements.
