Description from the seller
Item Description
This lot is a set of six natsume (棗), traditional lidded containers used to hold matcha powder in the Japanese tea ceremony. The set comprises two natsume made from natural bamboo, showcasing the material's joints and grain as decorative features, along with four lacquered natsume finished in vermilion, dark crimson, orange, and black respectively, offering an appealing variety of materials and finishes.
Regarding decoration, one of the vermilion lacquer natsume features a gold makie landscape design depicting a pine grove, bridge, and buildings, while the dark crimson natsume is adorned with gold and vermilion floral motifs of chrysanthemum and plum blossoms. The remaining natsume are finished in single colors, including one in black lacquer, one in plain vermilion lacquer, and one in orange with a black speckled pattern. The interiors of all lacquered natsume are smoothly finished in either black or vermilion lacquer, and the fit between lid and body is good throughout.
This is an attractive set not only for practical use in the tea ceremony, but also for display purposes or as part of a collection of lacquerware or bamboo crafts.
Dimensions
Height: 6.5 cm
Width: 6.5 cm
Depth: 6.5 cm
(Measurements are for the largest natsume in the set. The remaining five pieces are of a similar or slightly smaller size.)
