The Jesuit and preacher Christoph Ott (1612 - 1684) was active at the order’s schools and also dealt with historical topics. An interesting edition with the biographies of the individual popes from Peter to Clement X. The beautiful frontispiece shows Christ at the Gate of the Garden of Paradise, accompanied by angels that ward off the beasts of tyranny, heresy, godlessness, and schism; in the two trees at the edge are portraits of the popes in small medallions.
Condition: Ex Libris on the inside cover. The book block is somewhat loosened. Stamp on engraved title and handwritten note on the title. Inside somewhat browned, slightly spotted and the margins of the last pages trimmed, overall a very clean copy. Engraved title and a few pages with defects.
