Description from the seller
Beautiful and atmospheric set of three traditional Thai Thepphanom (Teppanom) temple guardians.
In Thai Buddhism and folk culture, Thepphanom are regarded as heavenly angels and protectors. According to tradition, they descended from the heavens to pay respect to the Buddha. They have traditionally been placed at temples and homes to protect spaces from negative influences and evil spirits.
The figures are depicted in a kneeling posture with hands clasped in the traditional wai (reverence and greeting). They are finely detailed with a traditional pointed crown (chada) and elegant clothing with handsome relief patterns.
Composition of the set:
Central large statue (24 cm):
Executed with a green-bronze patina and richly gilded details on the garment and crown.
Two flankers (11 cm):
Rendered in a comparably detailed style with gilded accents and an authentic dark/green patina.
Condition:
In good vintage condition with normal, age-related signs of use and patina. The wear to the gilding gives the whole an authentic and well-worn character. See the photos for a detailed view of the condition.
Dimensions and weights per statue:
Large statue (Center):
Height: 24 cm
Width: 6 cm
Depth: 7.5 cm
Weight: 869 g
Small statue (Left / Black patina):
