Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Two hand-painted wooden Swedish candle holders from Venjansslöjd, Dalarna, dating to 1990–2000, depicting a man and a woman in traditional costume; each piece measures about 24 × 14.5 × 2 cm in red, white, black and brown, with HB signature and original Venjansslöjd labels, in exceptionally good vintage condition as a paired set.
Description from the seller
A special and highly decorative pair of classic Swedish wooden candlesticks from Venjansslöjd, Dalarna, designed as a man and a woman in traditional folk costume.
What makes this set especially collectible is that both figures are hand-painted on both sides. They are therefore not only decorative from the front but can also be displayed freestanding. In particular the fine floral motifs, clothing details and characteristic colors clearly show the artisanal character of Dalarna folk art.
Both candlesticks bear the same HB signature and are still equipped with their original Venjansslöjd Dalarna labels. The fact that the man and woman have been preserved as an originally matching pair makes the set more attractive to collectors than separate pieces.
Dimensions per piece: approx. 24 × 14.5 × 2 cm.
Material: hand-painted wood.
Origin: Venjan, Dalarna, Sweden.
Signature: HB.
Period: presumably circa 1960–1970.
Condition: Exceptionally good vintage condition; unused. The original painting is very well preserved.
A charming and authentic example of Scandinavian folk art, where traditional Swedish folk dress, artisanal craft and functional design come together. Because of the combination of the complete pair, double painting, original labels, signature and excellent condition, this is a particularly attractive collectible.
