Rare vintage Cartier Demi Lune Santos from 1987, executed in the classic gold-colored Santos style and equipped with a special, Cartier-commissioned custom diamond setting.
This concerns a Demi Lune Santos in size 50-24-140, produced in France. On the eyewire are among others the markings “Cartier Paris Made in France,” 140 and the size 50-24. The characteristic low rectangular shape, Santos details, and burgundy-colored ends of the temples are typical for this edition.
This piece is fitted with a total of 9 natural diamonds, distributed over the central bridge and both sides of the frame. Each diamond has a diameter of approximately 3 mm and a weight of about 0.10 carat per stone, which amounts to a total diamond weight of approximately 0.90 carat.
According to the provenance, this diamond edition was produced at the time by Cartier on a custom order. It is therefore not a standard factory edition, but a Cartier-made eyewear tailored upon request. The invoice proving this is unfortunately no longer present. (It need not be specifically mentioned in the auction that it is a custom eyewear piece, it is in any case customized by Cartier themselves at the time.)
The eyewear is in good used condition, appropriate for its age. The frame presents itself neatly and the characteristic Cartier details are clearly visible. The lenses can of course be replaced by an optician with lenses of one’s own prescription or with non-corrective lenses.
