Antique Chinese lacquered storage chest / travel chest with original factory sticker
Shanghai – ca. 1920-1940
Special antique Chinese storage chest or travel chest from the Republic of China period (ca. 1920-1940).
The chest is made of wood with a dark brown lacquered finish and equipped with original brass fittings. The front is decorated with gold-colored depictions of traditional Chinese objects, including incense burners, vases and other symbolic items.
The interior is lined with original paper. On the inside there is still the original Chinese factory sticker. It notes, among other things, that it is a leather luggage manufacturer and contains the traditional quality guarantee “genuine goods, otherwise money back/replacement,” as used by many Chinese manufacturers in the first half of the 20th century. This supports dating to around 1920-1940.
The chest is in an authentic, untouched condition with clear signs of use, lacquer wear, discolorations and age-related marks appropriate for its age. The original inner lining and the label have been preserved, which increases the historical value. - The top shows clear water damage - pay close attention to the photos.
A decorative and collectible object that fits well within a collection of Chinese art, Asian antiquities or colonial travel objects.
