Description from the seller

Large vase with low, curved handles in ceramic, shaped and hand-painted, produced in Italy by the Florentine manufactory Cantagalli.

Of large size, it measures 5 x 23 x 25.5 cm.

At the base it bears the inscription "Italy" and the typical rooster.

Decorated entirely by hand with the famous motif "Tacchiolo". This particular decoration already appears in the late 15th century, but its real development occurred during the 18th century. The decorative motif depicting the classic "daisy" was developed by various Italian ceramists in shades of yellow, blue and green. The oldest term for this decoration is "blanser", perhaps the surname of an anonymous Tyrolean or French artist who introduced this typical decoration. In Central Italy it is known by the term "tacchiolo", the probable origin of the name derives from the eponymous valley covered by this flower, near Bomarzo in the province of Viterbo, or perhaps an appellation given to some Marche ceramist who executed this type of decoration.

Excellent overall condition; only one defect is noted, shown in the last photograph.

Very rare.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
