Description from the seller
This is a finely crafted Korean celadon jar in the tradition of the late Goryeo dynasty (14th century), decorated with an elegant inlaid crane and cloud motif. Goryeo celadon is widely regarded as one of the most refined ceramic traditions in East Asia, admired for its luminous jade-green glaze and sophisticated decorative techniques.
The jar features the characteristic sanggam inlay technique, where designs are carved into the clay body and filled with contrasting white or black slip before glazing. The motif of cranes among clouds symbolizes longevity, harmony, and transcendence, themes frequently found in classical Korean art.
The glaze displays the soft, translucent green tone associated with Goryeo celadon, with natural kiln variations that enhance its depth and visual richness. The compact form and balanced proportions make the vessel both aesthetically pleasing and historically evocative.
An appealing example of Korean celadon tradition, suitable for collectors of Goryeo ceramics, East Asian antiquities, and classical ceramic art.
