* The Prohibition Era Struggles: Motlow attempted to distill elsewhere (including St. Louis, Missouri, and Birmingham, Alabama), but national Prohibition in 1920 halted legal production entirely. During this time, the barrels stored in Missouri were even involved in high-profile bootlegging scandals (most notably U.S. v. Motlow, commonly known as "The Jack Daniels Whiskey Case").
* National Repeal vs. Tennessee Law: When National Prohibition was repealed in 1933 via the 21st Amendment, Tennessee state laws remained dry.
