Rare Pair of large Castelli ceramic table jugs, handcrafted and hand-painted.
This pair of maiolica jugs from Castelli is an elegant example of the Abruzzi ceramic tradition of the 20th century, inspired by the historical decorations developed in the famous Castelli workshops. The sleek shape, with a long spout and a distinctive curved handle, recalls the ancient wine or liqueur jugs of the local tradition.
The entire surface is hand-decorated with a rich polychrome composition of meadow flowers, leaves and sinuous tendrils that intertwine harmoniously on a white background. At the center of the decoration stands a bird in flight, a motif much loved in Castelli’s production and present for centuries in the manufactory’s ornamental repertoire together with the traditional "fioracci" and the popular decorations.
Made and painted entirely by hand, these jugs are not only refined decorative objects, but also a testament to the long tradition of Castelli maiolica, celebrated internationally for the quality of the decoration and the craftsmanship of its artisans.
