Gaston Goor (1902-1977) was a French painter, illustrator, and sculptor. In his teenage years he entered the School of Fine Arts of Nancy and later moved to Paris, where he met Picasso, Matisse, and Max Jacob, but Versailles drew his attention towards classical art. In his twenties he was already illustrating for multiple well respected publishing houses in Paris. His move to the Mediterranean opened a new period where he created paintings of naked young men and worked in interior decorations for wealthy art lovers. During the German occupation, while he was decorating the church of Douvaine in Haute-Savoie, Goor was accused of helping Jewish people to cross the border and was sent to a German detention camp. His return to Paris marked a new milestone in his art when Flammarion commissioned him to illustrate Roger Peyrefitte’s coming of age novel Les Amitiés Particulières. Peyrefitte and his circle of writers and art lovers gave him the opportunity to create a number of erotic works which are the most original and boldest part of his artistic production. This drawing was acquired from the circle of the artist's acquaintances at that time. Most of his art is held in private collections.
