Description from the seller
Boch Frères La Louvière – Large Art Deco/Modernist Footed Centerpiece Bowl – Designed by Raymond Chevalier – Pastel Blue & 24k Gold – Belgium, ca. 1930-1950DescriptionAn elegant and highly collectible vintage footed centerpiece bowl (coupe sur piédouche) in fine earthenware (faïence fine), manufactured by the renowned Belgian pottery Boch Frères La Louvière. This exquisite piece was designed under the artistic direction of Raymond-Henri Chevalier, who succeeded Charles Catteau in 1937. Chevalier redefined the factory's postwar aesthetic with a sleeker, more minimalist Modernist look. This bowl features his absolute signature stylistic hallmarks: a smooth, pastel sky-blue glazed interior contrasted against a creamy white base, beautifully tied together by sculptural, scalloped handles and a rim heavily gilded in high-polish gold.
A quintessential example of Belgian ceramic prestige, perfect for any Art Deco, Modernist, or Boch Frères enthusiast.
The pastel blue glaze remains vibrant and smooth with crackled effect that was intended. No visible structural cracks or chips. The gold trim on the rim and the ornate handles shows remarkably well, with only minor, expected micro-rubbing consistent with age and gentle handling.
