Dial and Hands
The dial is exceptionally preserved and visually dynamic, featuring a striking amber and brown gradient finish complemented by subtle vertical brushing. Applied gold-tone indices with black center stripes provide excellent contrast against the rich background, matching the clean printed text and applied logos perfectly. There is no visible moisture damage or significant degradation present. The gold-tone baton hands feature matching black center stripes and remain well preserved, showing only very minor signs of oxidation visible under macro inspection. A classic Kanji day and date aperture sits cleanly at the three o'clock position.
Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features an angular geometry that wears with honest vintage character. The edges remain relatively defined but show signs of normal wear, with moderate scratches and handling marks visible on the flanks and bezel area. The watch is fitted with its distinctive faceted mineral crystal, which displays some light scratches and minor edge wear while maintaining good overall clarity. An unsigned crown, typical for this model, sits flush against the case flank.
Movement
Powering this watch is the Seiko automatic caliber 5606A, featuring 23 jewels. The movement appears clean with no obvious signs of corrosion or heavy staining, and the rotor and plates show standard factory finishing. Engravings for Seiko, 23 jewels, and Japan 5606A are clearly present. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece, the raw timegrapher reading shows +13+16s/day. The movement was serviced on 16 August 2026.
Strap
The watch is fitted with its original signed stainless steel link bracelet. The clasp is clearly signed "SEIKO LM," and the endlinks are stamped "XLA 160." It shows normal stretch and surface scratches consistent with age, remaining original and well-suited to the case geometry. The bracelet accommodates a maximum wrist size of 18.5 cm.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. The movement was serviced on 16 August 2026 and, supported by the recorded timegrapher result, is performing very strongly. The spectacular gradient dial is beautifully preserved, while the hands show only minor micro-oxidation. The stainless steel case displays honest wear, with moderate scratches on the flanks and bezel area, and the faceted mineral crystal presents with light scratches and minor edge wear. The original signed bracelet shows normal age-related stretch and surface marks.
Dimensions
The case measures 36 mm (excluding the crown).
Remarks
This Lord Matic stands out through its brilliant dial preservation and its highly desirable faceted crystal. Retaining its original signed bracelet and Kanji day wheel, it represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire a character-rich 1970s Seiko with strong mechanical performance.
History
Introduced in the late 1960s, the Seiko Lord Matic line was positioned just below the prestigious King Seiko and Grand Seiko collections, offering sophisticated design and reliable automatic movements to the discerning mid-tier market. The 5600 series of calibers became a fundamental part of Seiko's production during this era, celebrated for its slim profile and dependable performance. By the 1970s, Seiko began experimenting with bold dial colors, gradient finishes, and heavily faceted crystals, perfectly reflecting the adventurous design language of the decade. Today, Lord Matic models featuring these expressive aesthetic choices are highly appreciated by collectors of vintage Japanese horology.
